The North End AI visibility study
Boston restaurants · Three AI engines · 141 businesses
I collected 78 answers from three AI engines about Boston's North End food scene and tracked which of 141 food businesses they recommended. The business list included restaurants, bars, bakeries, cafés and food tours.
A separate technical audit covered 127 websites, checking whether AI crawlers could access them and how they presented information to search engines. The business count measures recommendation visibility; the website count describes the technical audit.
62%of the businesses in the study never appeared in a single answer.
- None of the 127 websites blocked AI crawlers
- Crawler blocking did not explain why some restaurants were missing from the answers.
- One oyster bar appeared in all six seafood answers
- Its website had no structured data, the code that labels information for search engines. It still appeared in every seafood answer I recorded.
The answers drew on reviews, directories, local press and forums. That's why I look beyond a business's website: I research the sources AI engines use, then track whether the business appears in their recommendations.
Boston hair transplant clinic
Content strategy · SEO · Google AI Overviews
I helped a Boston hair transplant clinic become a cited source on Nutrafol safety in Google AI Overviews.
I built a three-article content cluster answering questions about Nutrafol: its side effects, whether it works, and how it compares with minoxidil.
1.68MGoogle search impressions from three articles.
- Answers to questions patients were already asking
- The articles addressed supplement research that patients do before considering treatment.
- Cited in Google AI Overviews
- The practice's content also appeared as a source in Google's AI-generated answers for Nutrafol-related searches.
Google search impressions, cumulative through August 23, 2026. AI Overview citations reported separately.
About Dani
Before NOVA, I spent a decade in sales and brand strategy.
I sold Fortune 500 wine and spirits portfolios across Boston, then spent almost four years at Tripadvisor managing multimillion-dollar pipelines. Working there gave me a close look at how a platform influences which businesses people find.
After two layoffs, I started NOVA Brandworks in 2024. I work on getting businesses surfaced in Google search results and recommended by AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. That means improving their websites and content, researching the sources AI engines cite, and strengthening the information those sources carry about the business. I track where businesses appear and which searches lead to customer inquiries.
